Consider This For a First Date

Consider a weeknight for a first date. Weeknights are far more casual for a first date, and allows either party to get out early If it’s not happening. Friday and Saturday nights are liable to end up in making people feel obligated to stay out longer than they would on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Talking Too Much is a Turn Off on a First Date

And breathe… seriously, breathe and don’t cut your date off. Breathing is, well, essential to living, and gives your date a chance to share parts of themselves, too. While we covered not monopolizing the conversation in an earlier tip, keep in mind that on top of allowing your date to share the stage, you also don’t want to interrupt or cut them off either. The only thing worse than not letting someone have a voice, is shutting them down mid-sentence. Although you may have something to say and want to make sure you do so before you lose your thought, take a breather, a bite of your filet mignon, a sip of your wine—whatever it takes to make sure you don’t silence your date.

Dating Advice from Estelle Matchmaking: What to do on the first and second date

It is always best to keep a first date simple so you can focus on each other and not stress too much over the logistics. I always recommend a dinner date for a first date. Dinner versus a drink allows you enough time to create a connection with the person you are meeting. The restaurant should be on the small size and quiet enough that you can hear each other without screaming.

After you have made that first connection, here are some great second date ideas that will make it a fun and memorable one.
  •  Bowling
  • Baking Class (Le Pain Quotidien has great classes where you can learn to make challah, breads and pizza)
  • Central Park Zoo
  • Museum evening/day exhibit
  • Sign up for a dance class
